A killer album from Candace Woodson – the kind of set that takes us back to the glory days of sophisticated female soul – the generation of Phyllis Hyman, Chaka Khan, and Jean Carne – when it seemed as if quality records like this were something we could really take for granted! Turns out, they weren't – and it's such a welcome change to have a record like this in the racks – a great return to soul music that's sophisticated, adult, and very well put-together – kind of that later legacy of the Philly International sound – in a way that really makes a singer like Woodson open up and soar. The tunes are tight and catchy, but never slick or commercial – really classic, right from the start – on titles that include "Desire", "The Answer Is No", "Nothing Better", "Back On Top", "Just A Dream", "Perfect", and "Don't Think I Want It".

Debut album from Candace Woodson who scored highly with her Tom Glide produced favourite ‘The Answer Is No’, this ten-track set oozes confidence and positivity. The uplifting ‘Free’ is an infectious dancer, the smooth beat ballad ‘Never Let Go’ finds her voice in good form while ‘Back On Top’ again speaks of empowerment and positivity. The standout track on the album is probably the punchy, funky dancer ‘Perfect’ – a real throwback groove that finds Candace in rich vocal form. Good contemporary soul album for a lady who has overcome some huge personal challenges to emerge with an album full of life and zeal.
